‘The Blade Itself’ is a kick in the pants for this erstwhile rabid reader

the-blade-itself-uk-paperback-joe-abercrombieWell, it's solved. My lethargy concerning reading has been cured by Joe Abercrombie's fast paced fantasy novel The Blade Itself. I'm a slow reader anyway, but lately I can’t seem to get motivated to really read. You know? That fervent reading that you do when you take the book everywhere with you. To the can, to work, at lunch, out walking the dog, while waiting to have your tires changed. Nope. Nothing’s moved me to that sort of fanaticism. I was sinking into one of those reading lulls. Sometimes I get in these funks where nothing can get me in the right mood to really read.

Thanks to Logan at Rememorandum by way of David at My Little Corner of the World (as I understand it) for mailing me a box with the entire trilogy in it. I read more last night in one sitting than I have done in a very long time. Doncha just love a good book?

A genre weeps: Frank Frazetta dead at 82

Today is a sad day. Legendary fantasy and comic illustrator Frank Frazetta is dead at 82 today. His paintings of Conan and prints sold in racks at Spencer’s captivated my imagination as a boy. His art has graced the pages of this blog numerous times. He will be sorely missed and always appreciated.

Thanks, Frank.
